THE FRAY AREA
Creative Direction & Styling - Gina Pulsinelli
2026

The Fray Area explores deterioration as transformation rather than failure. Through worn garments, distressed textures, and unraveling surfaces, decay becomes a record of time rather than loss. The project is rooted in the
tension between preservation and erosion, examining how materials change through exposure, wear, and use. Frayed edges, stains, fading, and imperfections are treated not as flaws to conceal, but as traces of life, time,
and what remains.
In opposition to fashion’s constant pursuit of perfection, novelty, and renewal, The Fray Area remains with what is aging, damaged, and incomplete. The work reframes deterioration as something active and evolving, a process in which garments shift from polished objects into lived surfaces shaped by
time. Drawing from ideas of natural contamination, industrial decay, and transformation, the project finds beauty in what is worn down, unstable, andunresolved.
